Evacuation Alert Systems
EVACUATION ALERT SYSTEMS
Leader Systems is the first independent life safety system specialist to be approved to the new BAFE SP207 standard for the design installation and commissioning of Evacuation Alert Systems.

What are Evacuation Alert Systems and WHY MIGHT YOU NEED A SYSTEM?
- An Evacuation Alert Systems is a manually operated alarm systems designed to be operated by the fire brigade in the unlikely event that, during a fire condition in a high-rise residential building, it becomes necessary to evacuate sections or all of the building.
- Evacuation Alert Systems are recommended for all new and existing high-rise residential buildings that are greater in height than 18m, where a stay put/defend in place fire strategy is being operated and there is no communal fire detection and alarm system.
Following the Grenfell Tower Phase 1 Inquiry, Evacuation Alert Systems are recommended for all new and existing high-rise residential buildings that are greater in height than 18m, where a stay put/defend in place fire strategy is being operated and there is no communal fire detection and alarm system.
The Evacuation Alert System should comply with the requirements of BS8629 and should not be confused with a fire detection and alarm system. Under no circumstances should there should be any link or integration between them.
The Evacuation Alert Systems is designed to be manually operated by the fire brigade in the unlikely event that, during a fire condition in a high-rise residential building, it becomes necessary to evacuate sections or all of the building. It is vital therefore that there should be close consultation with the fire brigade ahead of design to ensure that their requirements are fully understood and incorporated into the design.
EVACUATION ALERT BAFE SP207 & NSI Gold
Leader Systems are a BAFE SP207 approved company and will provide Evacuation Alert Systems SP207 certification applicable to works that we have carried out. Our approval covers the design, supply and installation, commissioning and maintenance of the systems. Certificates can be issued for each individual module (i.e., design or installation) or we can provide one certificate for all modules where we have full responsibility for the system.
Leader Systems are approved to BAFE SP207 via the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) to their Gold standard reserved for those companies operating a Quality Management System in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001 and NSI’s own standard EAQS207.
Given the importance of the Evacuation Alert System as the means of safely evacuating a high-rise building, when all other firefighting measures can no longer support a stay put policy, it is clearly vital that the system installed:
- Has been designed in close collaboration with the local fire services so that all evacuation strategies are catered for
- Is fully compliant with BS8629
- Is serviced and supported by a company expert with the equipment and standards to ensure the system is always ready to be used
Choosing Leader Systems for your evacuation alert system and having it certified by us to BAFE SP207 will give you, and perhaps more importantly your residents, the peace of mind that no matter what happens there is a high-quality system in place to ensure that they can safely evacuate their building in the event of a catastrophic fire.
SIMULTANEOUS EVACUATION ALERT SYSTEMS
Following the Grenfell Tower tragedy replacing combustible external wall systems is now a top priority, but ensuring residents are safe from fire before, during and immediately after remedial work is completed, presents many challenges.
Whilst there are a number of ways to approach these challenges by installing a temporary Leader Systems Simultaneous Evacuation System ensures you’re following the National Fire Chiefs Council recommendations for best practice as well as ensuring easy and cost-effective conversion to the BS 8629 Evacuation Alert Systems code of practice after the stay put policy is reinstated. Most importantly a well-designed compliant system can replace expensive waking watch.
Once you are satisfied that installing a ‘common fire alarm’ is the right solution for the building, a BS 5839 Part 1, category L5 fire alarm system should be fitted – before cladding removal starts.
Once cladding removal is complete, returning your building to ‘stay put’ status is easy as the Simultaneous Evacuation System will be designed to ensure an easy conversion to a fully compliant Evacuation Alert System.
